Centrale Lille and CRIStAL are pleased to welcome, from 20 June to 20 July 2022, Dr Ismael Lopez-Juarez, professor at the CINVESTAV Saltillo Research Centre, Mexico.

Co-author of more than 200 publications in journals with top-notch reading committees or international conference proceedings, Professor Lopez leads a research group on robotics and intelligent manufacturing systems. His research concerns the management of intelligent industrial and mobile robots and intelligent vehicles based on advanced AI methods (machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, etc.).

Professor Lopez’s visit is part of a regular and long-standing scientific collaboration in the fields of the control and optimisation of unmanned vehicles and their applications in logistics, industry 4.0 of the future, and healthcare.

The objectives of this visit are to continue the joint research work, finalise publications, discuss the joint supervision thesis work in progress, and initiate new collaborations on Centrale Lille’s strategic focus in the field of health engineering.

Professor Lopez is also the co-founder of the IJ Robotics start-up, which offers innovative hardware and software solutions in robotics in the industrial, logistics and personal services fields.

Professor Lopez participated in the Smart Systems elective module by giving a lecture, on 22 June, to students of École Centrale de Lille on intelligent robotic systems and their applications. He also informed students about opportunities for internships and joint research work at Masters and PhD levels in Mexico.
