As part of the second-year personal challenges of the École Centrale de Lille, Florent, Alicia and Romain will embark on a 4-month maritime expedition in the Mediterranean starting from a beginner level.

“We are making the most of our gap year to apply values we hold in esteem: respect for the environment and marine life, sobriety, and science through a sailing expedition,” explains Florent.

Their tasks during this 4-month voyage:

  • Gather scientific data: recording cetacean vocal communication throughout the expedition in partnership with the Astrolabe Expédition This data will then be passed on to researchers with the aim of improving understanding of how these species live.
  • Set up awareness-raising operations: organisation of several interventions in schools, such as fun activities, or activities to raise awareness of the environmental cause (climate fresco and understanding of the protection of marine life).
  • Regularly clean shorelines thanks to the Wings of the Ocean label, which their boat will bear.
  • Communicate about the eco-responsible lifestyle: the three students undertake to adopt an eco-responsible lifestyle throughout the project. They will communicate on respect for marine life via various media.
