Léane Mahé and Jean Le Goff’s team, 3rd year students at École Centrale de Lille, came 7th out of 413 in the final of the In Real Life challenge proposed by Accenture. The objective of this challenge was to imagine a responsible industry that combines technology with human ingenuity. Léane and Jean worked on the “Aerospace & Defence” domain and had to include the following three key areas: digital, responsible, and human.
“We focused our project on the airport of tomorrow. Our idea was to implement off-board e-taxis that can autonomously dock (and undock) to the landing gear of aircraft and drive them through the terminal. We plan to accompany the system with artificial intelligence to optimise runway travel times and thus reduce traffic. The e-taxi service would be coupled to a digitalisation of the control towers and an interface for users to communicate delays, flight stages as well as informing them about the consumption and environmental consequences associated with the journey. Thus, emissions linked to ground travel are reduced, as are delays, which benefits air traffic controllers, airlines, and passengers,” say Léane and Jean.
