If you’re a PhD student and are soon going to have to defend your thesis in a viva, here are some tips you might find useful.
If you’re registered with ED ENGSYS, the doctoral school of ENGineering and SYstem Sciences or MADIS, the DS of MAthematics and DIgital Sciences, the procedure starts with a “viva declaration”, to be made three months before the planned date, directly in your ADUM online space.
For the ED SMRE DS (doctoral school of Science of Matter, Radiation and the Environment) three months before your viva, you must send the school the form authorising the visa procedure, which is available on the doctoral school’s website. After validation by the school, it will be possible to start the procedure on ADUM.
It is when you send this declaration that you must indicate the composition of your jury. You can opt for a face-to-face, remote or hybrid presentation.
Practical aspects related to your viva:
- Rooms must be booked for vivas by the AER (teaching and research support officer) of your building. In order to ensure that your event is properly communicated, it is very important to clearly indicate on ADUM the room, as well as the establishment, if the viva does not take place in the Centrale Lille premises;
- If you wish to have copies of your thesis printed, you can request them from . This procedure is free of charge; you should allow at least one week;
- For precise information about post-viva drinks parties, an event request must be made online.
All necessary information can be found in the thesis guide, available in French and English on your DWE (digital work environment), as well as on the sites of the doctoral schools.
