The appearance of a disability can be a difficult experience. When it reduces a person’s professional capacities, working conditions may no longer be adapted to the new situation. In this case, it may be appropriate to have your disability recognised quickly to avoid endangering your health and safety. Solutions exist to improve this professional situation: this is the case with the Fund for the integration of persons with disabilities in the public service (FIPHFP – Fonds pour l’Insertion des Personnes Handicapées dans la Fonction Publique). On a case-by-case basis, the FIPHFP can finance individual material, technical, human or training aid.
A single prerequisite: declare your disability
The disability declaration is above all intended to assert a status, and therefore to protect the agent. For its part, the employer may request the support of the FIPHFP and organise the agent’s job retention. The Human Resources unit is there to support its agents in the process for ensuring recognition of the disabled worker status (RQTH – Reconnaissance de la Qualité de Travailleur Handicapé).
Initially, a consultation (covered by medical confidentiality) with the occupational physician will be necessary in order to initiate the recognition process. Agents can then contact the staff social worker to help them prepare an RQTH file with the departmental centre for disabled persons (MDPH – Maison Départementale pour les Personnes Handicapées).
