The first educational half-day (DJP – demi-journée pédagogique) for all teachers was held on Tuesday 29 November 2022 and focused on educational games: serious games, serious gaming, degamification, etc.

After an introduction to the concepts, the challenge for teachers was to create a learning game inspired by the famous Trivial Pursuits game on the theme of the… Learning Game!

At the end of the activity using the game, the participant-players had to be able to:

  • Define what a learning game is and all the related concepts;
  • Associate examples of learning game uses with the types of games used and the types of educational objectives they aim for;
  • Describe and apply the techniques for scripting, adapting and developing learning games within a teaching framework.

Seemingly simple, the educational objectives actually require becoming familiar with the learning game concepts, and the ability to degamify Trivial Pursuits to respect the educational alignment. Working in groups, teachers first removed the fun elements identified as “disruptive” to promote the serious utilitarian objective: learning. They went on to design, model, prototype and test a new game: “Centrale Pursuit”.

This method is all about learning by doing. Members of the educational and digital support centre supported the learners during these steps.

You can find all the resources used for the DJP in your TICE & Pédagogie (Information and Communication Technologies for Education & Teaching) space.
