The mission of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) is to promote the development of high-level research in universities. To this end, the IUF appoints each year a new class of Junior and Senior members. In 2020, Serge Bourbigot was part of the 29th class. The pandemic had prevented each of the laureates of the class from receiving their personalised IUF medal, struck at the Monnaie de Paris. This was carried out on the 30th anniversary of the IUF.
