The PEARL (Programme for EArly-stage Researchers in Lille) doctoral programme carried out by I-SITE ULNE is co-financed by the Marie Curie COFUND actions as part of the European Commission’s H2020 programme. It funds the recruitment of PhD students who will work on interdisciplinary research topics related to the scientific themes of I-SITE ULNE. These PhD students must meet the European Commission’s mobility rule and must be mentored by two researchers from different disciplines.

PEARL funds the doctoral student’s salary as well as a scholarship to cover mobility, personal and research costs for PhD students.

Following the last call for projects of the PEARL programme, 14 projects, 4 of which were selected in Centrale Lille:

  • Vitaly Ordomsky (UCCS) for CID – Catalysis Inducing Diodes for sustainable chemistry
  • Bruno François (L2EP) for OSCAR – Optimal techniques for Smart grid Charging of Autonomous electrical vehicles with Renewable energy sources
  • Fabio Bellot Noronha (chair CATBIOINNOV – UCCS) for MOLTEN – Integrated Biomass Fractionation and Platform Molecules production with Lignin Valorization
  • Christophe Volkringer (UCCS) for POMADE-CoV – Porous materials for the capture and the decomposition of coronaviruses. This project, conducted in collaboration with the Saint-Gobain multinational and the University of California, San Diego (USA), aims to develop porous materials for the capture and deactivation of coronaviruses (CoV), including SARS-CoV-2.

Over the two years of the PEARL programme, 5 of the 34 winners will be accepted by Centrale Lille as Doctoral students. Congratulations to the project leaders!
