Co-founded in 2016 by Laurentin DATHIS, a 2011 ITEEM graduate, “La Luck” is in the old town of Lille. It is a “gaming bar” with an especially friendly atmosphere, offering a large collection of board games.
In response to the health crisis, “La Luck” decided to diversify. Thus, by relying on the expertise of its employees, who are hosts and experts with a passion for board games and known as “game stewards”, “La Luck” is launching its own publishing house for board games this year.
It wants to stand out by offering its own editorial line amid the 700 games launched each year in France.
In order to achieve this, the game prototypes will first have to be approved by the publisher, submitted and tested by the “game stewards” and then by customers. Approximately 150 enthusiasts and game lovers are normally present every evening at “La Luck”.
In addition, in order to continue its development, the boardgame bar will very soon launch a system of unlimited game rentals, called “La Luck+” – games warmly recommended by the game stewards according to each customer’s taste. Finally, “La Luck”, which already opened a similar establishment in Brussels in 2019, plans to expand to other cities in France (Nantes) and abroad (Amsterdam).
Laurentin looks back on the history of “La Luck,” an idea that emerged when he was living in Canada (where he spent 6 years) and discovered gaming bars in the neighbourhoods of Montreal. This concept did not exist in Europe at the time, so he chose to return to Lille to develop the concept in partnership with his brother. He admits that he had to “take up all the challenges: managerial, marketing, communication, logistics, …! “
